We are delighted to welcome College graduate, Jess Chandler from Queensland, on board as the new Scholarships and Communications officer at Marcus Oldham. Jess replaces longstanding and respected staff member, Janet Craigie-McConnell who retired at the end of 2018.
Jess holds a dual degree from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), in Business and Creative Industries, majoring in Marketing and Interactive and Visual Design, as well as an Associate Degree in Agribusiness from Marcus Oldham College.
Prior to attending the College, Jess was the Marketing Manager for Austpec Holdings, managing a diverse portfolio of businesses across Agriculture, HR, Equine and Fuel Distribution. Jess also spent some time at The North Australian Pastoral Company in the role of Marketing Coordinator while completing the work placement component of her Marcus studies last year.
Both of Jess’ parents are originally from mixed grazing and farming operations in Western Queensland and as a result, Jess spent much of her childhood visiting and working on various properties. With a strong skill set in marketing and design and a true passion for agriculture due to her strong family ties to the bush, Jess is sure to be a wonderful asset to Marcus Oldham and the Foundation in driving the scholarship program and our alumni communications.
When asked what it is about agriculture that she finds most appealing, Jess said, “I am interested to see what the future brings for Australian agriculture with changing consumer taste and perception and pressure from global markets. I think as an industry we are in for many new opportunities and challenges and I am excited to be part of it going forward.”
Jess also has a strong interest in equestrian, having ridden and competed horses throughout her life.
Should you be interested in speaking with Jess about supporting our scholarship program or planning a reunion please feel free to contact Jess at [email protected] or (03) 5247 2927.
