Our Foundation

The role of giving at Marcus

Unlike other tertiary institutions, Marcus Oldham does not receive any formal funding from governments. All income from fees supports our operations, and teaching and learning programs.

The College is solely reliant on the philanthropic generosity of our community to finance our bursaries and scholarships, our capital improvements to buildings and new infrastructure,

The learning and living facilities, indoor and outdoor recreational spaces, technology and exceptional educational offerings we have at the College are due to the generosity of past students, current and past parents and staff, and friends of Marcus Oldham.

There have been consistent upgrades and renewals over the past 60 years, ensuring the College delivers the best learning environments for our students. In addition, corporate sponsorship supports the work of the Foundation, helping to underwrite events and activities such as guest lectures and our overseas study tour program.

Since its establishment, the Foundation has driven the College’s fundraising efforts, securing $17 million to achieve key projects, including:

  • Construction of the Principal’s residence
  • Creation of a new Social Room and Gym
  • Redevelopment of Lecture Rooms
  • The Baillieu Wing for student accommodation
  • The Douglas Boyd Learning Centre

Marcus Oldham College is a registered charity. Donations can be made by way of a oneoff gift or by committing to an annual pledge. All donations over $2 are tax deductible.

Our Foundation

The College Foundation was launched in 1989 to further develop Marcus Oldham as Australia’s independent centre of excellence in rural and equine business management education.

The Foundation Executive comprises College graduates, families, staff and business leaders from the corporate sector with a connection to the College. They advise on the College’s philanthropic strategy and our fundraising efforts.

The Foundation Chair is James Bufton (FM94).

The Learning Centre

The state-of-the-art Douglas Boyd Learning Centre was opened in February 2020, just as COVID19 was shutting down the world. The College’s aim to connect educators, students, graduates, and global business leaders took on new meaning. The advanced technology systems of the centre excelled, providing quality online teaching and learning. Back on campus now, students appreciate the scale, the connectivity and the various ‘learning spaces’ which are critical to the delivery and success of the accelerated degrees.
