Applied Techniques in Agricultural Commodity Hedging – 3 Day Course – 13th – 15th May 2024

The intricacies of agricultural futures trading requires professionals to have the tools and knowledge to make informed decisions and effectively manage price risk. Marcus Oldham’s Applied Techniques in Agricultural Commodity Hedging will give participants an in-depth understanding of agricultural commodity markets and strategic trading analysis.

After completing the Applied Techniques in Agricultural Commodity Hedging course, participants will be better equipped to anticipate market movements and mitigate price volatility.

Participants will be learning from one of the industries most experienced commodity price risk managers and applying proven trading strategies to enable you to navigate future complex markets, basis trading, options on futures contracts and foreign exchange with confidence.

Participants will gain experience from working on real life scenarios applicable to the cattle, oilseed, wheat and cotton markets. With networking opportunities with industry peers to further strengthen your skills and understanding of agricultural commodity hedging, the course will be practical and relevant to agribusiness risk management decision making.

The course will provide the following learning outcomes:

  • Participants will gain an understanding in agricultural futures trading, assisting them to navigate the complex world of futures markets.
  • Strategic Analysis of Agricultural Commodities. Learn to Strategically Analyse Agricultural Commodity Markets, Identifying Opportunities and Mitigating Risks to Optimise Trading Performance and Maximise Returns
  • Expert Guidance from an Industry Professional. Participants will benefit from his wealth of experience and insights from industry in agricultural futures trading. His knowledge will assist in equipping participants with practical skills and knowledge to navigate markets.
  • Understanding of futures markets. Develop a comprehensive understanding of futures markets, including market dynamics, pricing mechanisms and regulatory frameworks
  • Networking opportunities with industry peers. Engage and network with peers and industry professionals in trading

Format

This course is offered in-person over two days at Marcus Oldham College’s campus in Geelong, Victoria. This course is limited to 20 participants. At the conclusion of the program, participants will receive a certificate of completion from Marcus Oldham College.

Cost 

The cost for the course is $1705 (incl GST) and covers all course materials, morning tea and lunch and one formal dinner. Accommodation is available for $120 per night for participants (single-room, share bathroom in the Baillieu Wing) and includes breakfast and dinner.

Instructors 

This course will be delivered by renowned agricultural commodities and finance expert, Dr. George P. Apperson III (Pat).

Dr. Apperson has worked extensively in industry across Australia and America and currently lectures at Marcus Oldham College and Clemson University in South Carolina as well as delivering short courses in commodity hedging and agribusiness sales with the International Grains Program (“IGP”) Institute at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas.

Dr. Apperson also consults for domestic and international commodity trading and marketing companies in the areas of financial risk management and the agricultural sales process.

Further Study

Participants can elect to complete the Applied Techniques in Agriculture Sales course (which runs immediately after this course) and a Learning Consolidation and Assessment Unit online to gain credit towards the IRS901 unit which is part of the Master of Agribusiness Program here at Marcus Oldham College. Applied Techniques in Agriculture Sales – 2 Day Course – 16th & 17th May 2024

As the agricultural sales market increasingly becomes more competitive with more larger and complex farming operations, Agribusiness Sales Managers will require a more advanced skill set to compete in this market. Marcus Oldham’s Applied Techniques in Agricultural Sales Management course is designed for those who are wanting to develop and enhance their skills as salespeople in agribusiness.

Over two days, participants will learn how to strategically leverage information to maximise their sales opportunities and position themselves as a sales professional in the agricultural sector. With personalised guidance from industry experts, this course will assist you in developing skills to foster long term customer relationships, ensure customer satisfaction and loyalty, as well as how to ensure sustainable business growth as an agricultural sales manager.

The course will provide the following learning outcomes:

  • Understanding of agribusiness sales environments
  • Design strategic sales plans for success
  • Practical applications of sales strategies and techniques tailored for agricultural related industries
  • Understanding of sales dynamics from relationship building to closing deals and managing customer accounts
  • Enhancing your communication and relationship skills. Improving your ability to communicate effectively and build rapport for long term customer relationships.
