Life After Marcus

Better Succession Seminar

Thursday 5th December 2:00pm – 5:00pm AEDT

Douglas Boyd Learning Centre, Marcus Oldham

Start the conversation to plan for a successful succession of your family business. Join us for an enriching session where our expert panel, featuring the seasoned perspectives of Duncan Ashby and Luke Dunne, will not only share their personal journeys but also offer invaluable guidance to begin this vital process.

Of all the issues that have the greatest impact on a family business, nothing comes close to when a family business is transitioning from one generation to the next and the consequences of the decisions made can resonate for years to come.

Often the key ingredient to an unsuccessful transition to the next generation has been around communication or more importantly, a lack of communication. As many of our graduating students head back home to start their careers, the question of what and how to tackle the issue of transition is often aired with the lecturers at Marcus.

Many of the students simply want to know how to start the conversation so that they at least have some understanding of their roles and responsibility going forward.

Numerous past students have found this session invaluable, even if they were not returning to a family farm or business.

This seminar will feature a Q&A session and will be followed with drinks in the foyer of the Douglas Boyd Learning Centre. Please RSVP for both you and your guests.

Luke Dunne is an Accredited Specialist in Business Law. Luke advises clients from a broad range of industries on all manner of commercial transactions, focussing on timely and cost-effective advice relating to business structuring, contractual and taxation matters. He also assists clients through the personal, emotional and structural and taxation challenges of business succession and complex estate planning.

Duncan Ashby is a lecturer in agribusiness, accounting, and law at Marcus Oldham College. He is also a Board Member for the Wimmera Catchment Management Authority. Prior to this he worked for 15 years as a farm business adviser and CPA specialising in farm business management, finance, and succession planning.
