The Centre for Professional Development offers a range of short courses throughout the year ranging from one day to one week course through to the Marcus Oldham Rural Leadership Program.

We are excited to be offering two short courses in May 2024 with them both being run in person at the College with internationally renowned agricultural commodities and finance expert, Dr. George P. Apperson III (Pat). The two courses,  Applied Techniques in Agricultural Commodity Hedging & Applied Techniques in Agriculture Sales, will run one after the other and are strictly limited to 20 participants.

The Applied Techniques in Agricultural Commodity Hedging course is a three day course running from the 13th to the 15th May 2024 here at the College Campus.

The intricacies of agricultural futures trading requires professionals to have the tools and knowledge to make informed decisions and effectively manage price risk. Marcus Oldham’s Applied Techniques in Agricultural Commodity Hedging will give participants an in-depth understanding of agricultural commodity markets and strategic trading analysis.

After completing the Applied Techniques in Agricultural Commodity Hedging course, participants will be better equipped to anticipate market movements and mitigate price volatility.

Participants will gain experience from working on real life scenarios applicable to the cattle, oilseed, wheat and cotton markets. With networking opportunities with industry peers to further strengthen your skills and understanding of agricultural commodity hedging, the course will be practical and relevant to agribusiness risk management decision making.

The Applied Techniques in Agriculture Sales is a two day course that will follow on from the Applied Techniques in Agricultural Commodity Hedging course on the 16th and 17th of May 2024.

As the agricultural sales market increasingly becomes more competitive with more larger and complex farming operations, Agribusiness Sales Managers will require a more advanced skill set to compete in this market. Marcus Oldham’s Applied Techniques in Agricultural Sales Management course is designed for those who are wanting to develop and enhance their skills as salespeople in agribusiness.

Over the two days, participants will learn how to strategically leverage information to maximise their sales opportunities and position themselves as a sales professional in the agricultural sector. With personalised guidance from industry experts, this course will assist you in developing skills to foster long term customer relationships, ensure customer satisfaction and loyalty, as well as how to ensure sustainable business growth as an agricultural sales manager.
