Background

Meurer Pastoral Company is a progressive family-owned livestock aggregation based in southern NSW and northern Victoria producing wool, prime lamb, and beef. The properties cover 5000 hectares located at Holbrook, Albury and in the Mitta Valley. The properties were strategically selected to complement each other and provide exposure to three key commodities. The target carrying capacity of the aggregation is 65,000 Dry Sheep Equivalent (DSE) on reaching full development. The properties are professionally managed by Growth Farms and each enterprise has a dedicated team to maximise production. The company strives for the highest standards of animal husbandry, sustainability in resource management and workplace safety. These practices are embodied in the day-to-day culture of the business. Meurer Pastoral strives for excellence in livestock production to ensure positive economic and environmental outcomes.

Requirements

The successful applicant will receive $17,000 towards their accommodation costs.

A further $7,000 will go to the scholarship recipient on completion of a 2000-word report aimed at assisting a specific target group and/or broader community within the wool/sheep/technology industries. The report will be a discrete piece of work aimed to add value to the student and others.

The winner of the scholarship will also be required to visit one or more of the properties of the Meurer Pastoral Company at an agreed time during their final year.

Question

When applying for the scholarship, you will be required to submit a brief essay (up to 500 words) indicating the proposed research topic, including aims, objectives, benefits, timeframe, expected outcomes, plans for the use of the information and how the financial support will be used.

The successful applicant will be required to submit (by 5pm AEDT 15/01/24) a 2000-word report aimed at assisting a specific target group and/or broader community within the wool/sheep/technology industries. The report will be a discrete piece of work aimed to add value to the student and others.
