Entry Requirements

This course is available full-time on campus only.

Applicants must:

Marcus Oldham maintains a flexible policy in relation to entrance criteria and judges each applicant on their individual merits. Ideally, applicants will:

  • Be at least 18 years of age by the start of the academic year (generally the beginning of February)
  • Have successfully completed secondary education (mature age applicants accepted on merit)
  • Have completed at least 12 months in an industry placement following secondary school. Preferably two or more years.
  • Have a strong desire to pursue a career in the agricultural/agribusiness/equine industries

The process is an assessment of the following:

  • Past academic results
  • Years of industry experience following secondary school
  • An interview with the candidate

Past Academic Results

Candidates past academic results are to:

  • ensure that students have adequate prior knowledge and English language skills and mathematics to undertake the course of study
  • provide recognition for prior learning arrangements that are consistent with the Qualification Standards and preserve the integrity of the course of study in accordance with the Recognition of Prior Learning policy.

Industry Experience (following secondary school)

All candidates must have a minimum of 12 months relevant industry experience post-secondary school. Higher regard will be given to candidates based on the length and depth of their industry experience.

Candidates wishing to study the Agricultural program would be expected to have experience in production agriculture and/or agribusiness.

Candidates wishing to study the Agribusiness program would be expected to have of experience in agriculture and/or agribusiness.

Candidates wishing to study the Equine Business program would be expected to have of experience in horses, agriculture and/or agribusiness.

Interview with the candidate

The most important criteria for selection is an interview with the candidate. Candidates must demonstrate:

  • Motivation and enthusiasm for learning
  • Commitment to a professional career in agricultural, agribusiness or the equine industry
  • Ability of meet the academic requirements of the courses
  • A base knowledge of agriculture systems
  • Emotional maturity and professionalism

For direct entry into either the second or third year of the program, applicants will need to contact the Director of Agriculture and Agribusiness to discuss eligibility for advanced standing. If advanced standing is to be granted for all or any part of a year of study, there may still be a requirement to satisfactorily complete either one or more selected units or specifically designed bridging units.

All applications for undergraduate study are assessed using the same ranking scale based on a combination of academic results, work experience, and an interview. The Marcus Oldham ranking score for all undergraduate courses is based on the following:

Motivation and enthusiasm for learning 0 to 14
Commitment to a professional career in agricultural, agribusiness or the equine industry 0 to 14
Ability of meet the academic requirements of the courses 0 to 14
A base knowledge of agriculture systems 0 to 14
Emotional maturity and professionalism 0 to 14
Experience 0 to 15
School results 0 to 15
TOTAL ranking score is out of – 100

Here's some frequently asked questions

Both 1st year and 2nd years of the course curriculum are underpinned by two major study tours, the first each year taking in many parts of Victoria, New South Wales or South Australia and the second at the end of August often internationally. International tours have in the past been conducted to New Zealand, China, Indonesia, and Singapore and Malaysia.

There are no subject pre-requisites for entry into the Bachelor of Business (Agribusiness) program. You are required to meet the entry requirements and be interviewed before an offer will be made.

Practical/industry placements that range between two weeks and ten weeks for the various programs are usually without payment although some employers will make a nominal payment. Quite often these placements provide an opportunity for future employment.

Upon enrolling, students are provided with a student handbook that covers procedures for reassessments and re-enrolments. There are fees associated with reassessment and re-enrolment.
